Día 2: St. Petersburg.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHT: Panoramic visit of St. Petersburg. Catherine Palace.

09.00.- With a local guide we begin the panoramic visit of this beautiful city crossed by the Neva River and built on 40 islands. Saint Petersburg is the second most important city of Russia and capital of the Russian Empire. This imperial city reveals the history of the Russian tsars through its museums, palaces, and architectural wealth. The visit includes the Peter and Paul Fortress, origin of the city (entrance included)

The former capital of Tsar Russia is surrounded by numerous impressive palaces, baroque or rococo, with magnificent fountains and gardens that today are World Heritage Site in what is called "St. Petersburg Historic Centre and annexed monumental ensembles".   Today, due to access restrictions and depending on the availability of the palaces, we include an excursion (guided visit and entrance fees included) to one of them, Catherine in Pushkin or Peterhof in Peterhof, of similar characteristics. Return to St. Petersburg at the end of the afternoon. Free time.

Día 3: St. Petersburg- Moscow.-
09.00hrs.- Today, we include in the heart of St. Petersburg the Hermitage Museum, a fantastic museum with more than 2.5 million works of art from Europe and the Orient, located in which was the main residence of the Czars, the Palace of winter. Guided tour and tickets included.

In the afternoon we take the “Sapsan”, the modern high- speed train, and in four hours we cover the nearly 800 km separating the two cities. Arrival in Moscow and transfer to our hotel.
Día 4: Moscow.-
Comprehensive tour of Moscow.
Note: Visitors must wear formal attire in the cathedral. Please bear this in mind before the visit.

09:00 h. We start out on an exciting tour of the Russian capital lasting approximately three and a half hours. This city has a past, present and future like no other. We will see its enormous avenues, elegant shopping districts, the Red Square and the Lenin Mausoleum, St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (open for worship, visitors wearing shorts are not allowed to enter). Visit to the Kremlin and to the two main cathedrals included. We will try to make our visit coincide with the military parade held in Sobornaya Square, but we cannot guarantee it. At the end of the visit, visitors can stay in the city centre or return to the hotel.

Free afternoon.-Our guide will offer you the following optional outings: visit to Moscow Metro, the "Kostroma" Folklore Shore or Moscow Circus.

Día 5: Moscow.-
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHT: Viewpoint over Moscow. Great Patriotic War Museum.

09.00 hrs.-  We will learn more about the history of Russia and its capital. We will pass by the university viewpoint, with its fantastic view over the city where newly married couples leave flowers (we could go to the viewpoint after Saturday’s visit instead of Sunday) and we will get to know (including entry) the Great Patriotic War Museum (World War II) that also shows us many aspects of the Soviet period. Free afternoon.
Día 6: Moscow- Vladimir- Gorojovets- Nizhni Novgorod.-
Distance covered: 425 km
Scenery: Flat countryside, populated areas of the Muscovite metropolis, pretty scenery around the hills of Gorokhovets.

08.00 hrs.- Moscow - Departure -. We travel to the east of Moscow.
12.15 hrs. - VLADIMIR – Arrival -. We are in one of the cities of the area known as the “golden ring”. We visit the majestic Cathedral of the Assumption that forms part of UNESCO’s World Heritage. After the visit, we include lunch in a typical restaurant of traditional architecture in the outskirts of the city.

15.00 hrs. - Vladimir – Departure -. We go on our way eastwards.
17.00 hrs. - GOROKHOVETS – Arrival -, a beautiful village of hills where there is a small ski resort. Many of its houses are of the traditional wooden architecture. We enter its walled Kremlin that offers great views and a 17th century monastery in surroundings that seem from other times.
18.15 hrs. - Gorokhovets - Departure -.
19.45 hrs. -  NIZHNY NOVGOROD, the capital of the federal district of the Volga, the fifth largest city in Russia and the place where Maxim Gorky was born. We suggest that you take an evening stroll around its busy central streets. Dinner included in the hotel.

Día 7: Nizhni Novgorod- Makarjevo- Cheboksary.-
Distance done by road: 260 km.
Scenery: We take a small road that crosses large forests and small villages of wooden architecture, and cross the river Volga by boat.
Notes: We know of places little visited by tourists. In Makaryev the baths are precarious and there are no bars or cafés. The bus that takes us to Makaryev is not the usual one, remember to take everything you will need en route with you. The stage may have its schedule change to adapt it to the timetable of the small ferry that takes us across the river Volga.

08.00 hrs. - We visit Nizhny Novgorod, a place the Russians consider the most pleasant city to live in the country, with impressive views of the river Volga. We will see the monumental staircases that climb to the Kremlin and enter and the monument that tells us about the victims of the Second World War.  This city nostalgically remembers the Soviet period, in which it was an important centre for arms manufacture; along with its walls, we will see some of the tanks that were built in the city and were used during the Second World War.

09.30 hrs. - Nizhny Novgorod - Departure -. We will leave Nizhny in a very original way: on the cable car that travels over the river Volga and connects the city centre with the other shore (sometimes the cable car is not working and this stage will be done by road). We will go off the busiest roads to see the rural world, large planes, fir forests, lakes along the way and villages of wooden houses.
11.00 hrs. - MAKARYEV – Arrival -. A small village with a large 15th century walled monastery on the banks of the Volga, a very beautiful place practically devoid of tourism. The religious inhabitants of the monastery will open their churches to us and we can also photograph the village houses of traditional architecture.-

13.00 hrs. - Makaryev – ferry departure - (times may change). On a small ferry, used only by the locals (tractors, village people, small vehicles, etc.) we will cross the river Volga. Spectacular views of the monastery. A crossing of around 20 minutes. Arrival at the other bank (where our bus is waiting for us) and  lunch included.
15.00 hrs. – departure from the restaurant -. We enter the CHUVASH Republic, an autonomous republic with a very different culture and where the language comes from Turkish.

17.15 hrs. - CHEBOKSARY - Arrival -. We are in the capital of the Chuvash Republic,  a beautiful and well-organised city on the banks of the Volga. On arrival, we include a tour of this pleasant city with great viewpoints, beer museum and interesting pedestrian areas.  We also enjoy a short show that explains part of the folklore of the republic (the show will not be given if the group is smaller than 12 people). . Dinner included in the hotel.
Día 8: Cheboksary- Yoshkar- Ola- Svijaschk- Kazan.-
Distance done by road: 330 km.
Scenery: Great plains, forests, the presence of the Volga and its tributaries.

08.00 hrs. - Cheboksary - Departure -. We travel to another autonomous republic: Mari El; here its inhabitants -who for centuries lived in the forests- speak a very ancient language derived from Hungarian and Finnish.

09.45 hrs.-  YOSKHAR-OLA, the capital of the Republic. Its urban centre has been entirely changed in recent years. Around its lake, the buildings represent the different architectures that exist in the cities of Russia and which are reproduced in points of the Kremlin. We can place the “procession of the twelve apostles” on the city clock. .  Lunch included.

13.30 hrs. - Yoskhar-Ola - Departure -. We travel to the Tartar Republic.
16.00 hrs. - SVIYAZHSK,  an ancient walled island on the Volga, now connected by road, and declared UNESCO World Heritage; a city built at the time of Ivan the Terrible, very picturesque and pedestrian throughout, its churches, its ancient wooden houses, its fortress.

18.00 hrs. -Sviyazhsk - Departure -
19.00 hrs. - KAZAN, arrival and accommodation.
Día 9: Kazan.-
Full day in KAZAN, the Tartar capital, a city of over a million inhabitants.
At 9.00 hrs. we will start our tour of the magnificently restored city with its mosques erected alongside orthodox churches and the Slav world combining with the Turkish, European and Oriental. We also see  the Kremlin and the house of Lenin, a pleasant traditional dacha from the early 20th century (only from the outside, the interior is closed on Mondays).  We will stroll around the picturesque Muslim district and also through the more modern centre, with the ever present river Volga, where we find the modern football stadium that was used for the World Cup 2018.
